I do believe that the best things in life are for free, if not for a cheap price. LOL! Yeah, based on my experience, I don’t spend much when traveling. So here are some of my tipid tips when traveling.
1) Go for DIY trips rather than packaged ones.
There are times when group deals and packages are cheaper if it’s only you and your boyfriend/girlfriend. But most of the times, you can save more in DIY trips especially if you are in a group of 4 or more. Just take note that it takes a lot of research, planning and resourcefulness to do this. If you have a friend in a group who is good with that, let him/her take the lead.
2) Research or ask others. Be prepared than sorry.
This is indeed helpful when booking for accommodation and tranportation. Search for cheaper ones but has good location and services. Also, there are times when the same hotels are listed in different sites in different prices. The same goes with plane tickets, entrance fees to attractions and other activities. You can also ask your friends who have been there and they will surely give you some tips and what to avoid. We were in Cambodia when we booked a bus to Vietnam through our hotel and later found out that an agency nearby was selling the same bus ticket for a cheaper price. We could have saved $20 each person. But it was too late to cancel the booking.
3) Seat sale is the best! Book on the eve of the seat sale.
This means that you have to book early for your flights. Usually, off-peak season, weekday, last/first flights are cheaper. Take note of Philippine holidays as airline websites go one sale during these times. Start looking for promo fares around 10 PM before the sale day. I usually have a budget limit for plane tickets for domestic and intetnational. I check the ad first if the promo fare is within my budget. Sometimes there are hidden text in the ads so watch out. Don’t be deceived.
These are just three tips. I will write more in my next posts. If you have questions, please feel free to drop them in the comments.
